Step 1 of 5

Healthcare provider’s awareness, attitude and practice of Ayurvedic medicine in the management of chronic diseases

The increasing global burden of chronic diseases is a concerning trend, as they currently account for a staggering 74% of all deaths worldwide. The management of chronic diseases can prove to be quite arduous since they frequently necessitate prolonged periods of care and monitoring. Fear of potential side effects and the perceived non-response to conventional treatments compounds the challenge of managing chronic diseases.

To effectively address the burden of chronic diseases and advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which prioritizes reducing premature mortality from NCDs by one-third it is crucial to explore all treatment options at our disposal. Data from the United Kingdom shows that Ayurveda is used extensively among individuals who are living with long-term diseases. Despite the growing interest there is a lack of regulatory framework for patient education of Ayurveda and a systematised referral system. As a result, a substantial informal and subdued healthcare sector exists, the magnitude of which remains elusive. The potential adverse repercussions of limited communication between healthcare providers and patients on alternate healthcare management and outcomes cannot be overlooked.

Through this survey, we aim to explore the healthcare provider’s awareness, attitude and practice of Ayurvedic medicine in the management of chronic diseases. This initiative is expected to open more dialogue about Ayurveda in the clinics and facilitate patient safety, promote the evidence-based practice of Ayurveda, ensure professional accountability and cultural competence. We are genuinely interested in receiving candid feedback, including constructive criticism, so we encourage you to express your opinions. Our team will systematically gather and analyse the survey data, and subsequently present our findings to the University. Should you wish to be informed of the results, we would be more than happy to share them with you.
